Troubleshoot An Lg Air Conditioner Problem

Troubleshoot an LG Air Conditioner Problem

Troubleshoot an LG air conditioner to determine if the problem is resolved by making minor repairs or adjustments before calling a service technician. You may hear a pinging noise when water hits the condenser or a click when the compressor turns on or off. Water pools in the base pan if the humidity is high or it has been raining and the fan runs when the compressor is not running. This is normal operation. If the air conditioner is not functioning normally, perform troubleshooting and attempt to resolve the problem.

Instructions

Does Not Operate

1. Insert the power cord into the outlet fully. Press the Reset button on the plug. Unplug the air conditioner and call for service if the Reset button will not engage.

2. Open the household fuse or breaker box and check for blown fuses or thrown breakers. Unscrew cloudy or black fuses to remove, and replace with new fuses. Push breakers from the Off position to the On position.

3. Turn the control to Off and wait three minutes before restarting the air conditioner in the event of a power failure. This prevents overloading the compressor.

Does Not Cool

4. Open the grille on the front of the air conditioner and remove the filter. Clean the filter and replace it. The filter should be cleaned every two weeks.

5. Turn the air conditioner off and open the front grille. Set the control to High Fan or High Cool with a high temperature if ice is present on the condenser coils. Ice blocks the flow of air and prevents the air conditioner from cooling properly.

6. Contact a professional to add refrigerant to the air conditioner if it still does not cool. Refrigerant should not be added by the consumer.

Fan Problems

7. Turn the air conditioner on the High then Low fan settings if the fan motor cuts off and on. Contact a service technician to replace the fan motor if the speed of the fan does not change from high to low.

8. Realign the fan assembly if the fan does not rotate. The fan blade is hitting the blower wheel or shroud and must be realigned. Use mounting screws to shim the bottom of the fan motor if the blades are hitting the base. Contact a service technician if you are not experienced in air conditioner repair.

9. Check the motor bearings by rotating the motor shaft. Replace the fan motor if the shaft will not rotate. Contact a service technician if you are not experienced in air conditioner repair.

Tips Warnings

Do not attempt to repair the fan or other internal parts if you are not experienced in air conditioner repair. It can result in personal injury or property damage.
