Cook Pot Roast And Sauerkraut In A Crockpot

Crockpots, or slow cookers, allow anyone to cook a full meal while doing something else. Pot roast and sauerkraut is a meal that can be put together in the morning, ignored for the day and eaten as the evening meal. It is one of those meals that seems especially suited to the crockpot and requires very little preparation.

Instructions

1. Cut the roast into two evenly sized pieces and trim the excess fat. This will help insure that the meat cooks fully in the crockpot.

2. In a heavy skillet, heat the cooking oil over medium heat. Brown the two roast halves on all sides in the skillet.

3. Core the apple and cut it into thin slices. Lay the slices on the bottom of the crockpot. Place the browned roast on the apple slices.

4. In a large bowl, combine the tomatoes, sauerkraut, onion soup mix and brown sugar. Pour the mixture over the roast.

5. Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on low for eight to nine hours.

6. Remove the meat to a platter and stir the remaining ingredients. Spoon or ladle what's left into a bowl and serve it with the roast.
