Cook Baked Potatoes

A baked potato stuffed with butter and cheese, topped with sour cream and chives.

Harvested from the ground, potatoes are cleaned and cooked to make a variety of side dishes. They can be used to make mashed potatoes, french fries, tater tots, hashbrowns, or scalloped potatoes. Baked potatoes are still one of the most popular ways to eat this starchy veggie. Baked potatoes are baked in an oven, with their skin, until the inside becomes fluffy. They are then commonly topped with butter, cheese, sour cream, bacon bits and chives. Cooking baked potatoes is an easy task. All it takes is a few ingredients and a bit of effort.

Instructions

1. Move an oven rack to a middle position and preheat your oven. Sungloidaho.com suggests you set your conventional oven at 425 degrees or your convection oven at 375 degrees.

2. Choose your potatoes based on size and condition. Pick potatoes that have few blemishes on the surface.

3. Hold the potato under cool running water and scrub the skins clean. This removes dirt and grim from the skin, leaving it clean for consumption. Dry the potato using a kitchen towel.

4. Pierce both sides of the potato with a fork. Get half way through the potato before removing the fork. Larger potatoes may require a knife or sharper utensil.

5. Roll the potato in melted butter, then quickly transfer it and roll it in sea salt. Use a microwave safe dish to melt the butter. Scatter sea salt in a large plate to evenly distribute it onto the potato.

6. Place the potatoes in a baking dish. Leave the lid off. Place the dish on the middle rack and cook for 50 to 55 minutes.

7. Keep the potatoes warm by wrapping them in a sheet of aluminum foil. Serve the wrapped potatoes to your dinner guests.
