Gluten Free Restaurants In California With Pancakes On The Menu

Pancakes are a tasty breakfast treat.

As an additive used in flavoring, stabilizing and thickening foods, gluten is a protein also referred to as dextrin. As a treatment for celiac disease and wheat allergies, gluten-free diets do not allow for the consumption of any gluten product. For breakfast diners who have adopted this particular eating regiment, California is home to several eateries with gluten-free pancakes on the menu.

Plaza Inn at Disneyland

Since April 2010, Disneyland Resorts has added a host of gluten-free items to menus throughout the park. Upon special request and if you don't mind the additional wait time, gluten-free pancakes are prepared for you at the Plaza Inn in the Main Street USA section of Disneyland. In addition, other gluten-free items served at this particular restaurant include omelets and various breakfast meats, as well as fresh fruits and baked chicken.

Flore Vegan Cuisine

Flore Vegan Cuisine in Silverlake was given a 95 percent rating by Zagat in 2010. In addition to its deli counter, indoor and al fresco dining is available. Several breakfast items are both wheat and gluten-free either by nature or upon request. For instance, the tofu scramble is gluten-free by request while menu items which are already gluten-free include the griddle cakes and blueberry buckwheat bliss. The griddle cakes are orange-infused rice flour pancakes topped with strawberries while the blueberry buckwheat bliss is buckwheat pancakes with blueberries and walnuts.

The Original Pancake House

Blueberry, banana and chocolate chip gluten-free pancakes are available at the Original Pancake House. In fact, all of the pancakes that are made with buttermilk can be created gluten-free. This national pancake chain has locations up and down the California coastline in cities that include Anaheim, San Jose and Encinitas. Though the building structures differ per location, the menus are similar. In addition to the gluten-free pancakes, Original Pancake House also serves crepes, breakfast meat items and egg specialties.

Rick & Ann's Restaurant

Voted the best breakfast in the Bay Area in a 2009 issue of Oakland magazine, Rick & Ann's Restaurant serves breakfast from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Among the myriad of breakfast menu items are the orange rice flour pancakes with blueberries which are wheat and gluten free. Gluten-free pancakes are also featured on the brunch menu which is offered Saturday, Sunday and holidays. This destination also hosts events featuring organizations and artists based in the East Bay community.
