Roll Out Homemade Flour Tortillas

Flour tortillas can be the perfect accompaniment for many dishes. You can purchase them in most grocery stores, but you can also make your own. So the next time you make fajitas at home, grab your rolling pin and create your own homemade flour tortillas.

Instructions

1. Measure and mix your dry ingredients in a bowl. Stir in the liquid ingredients. Mix everything well. The tortillas may be sticky at this point.

2. Gently knead the dough on a lightly breaded breadboard to remove the stickiness of the tortilla mixture. Return the dough to its bowl and let the dough rest for 15 minutes. Don't expect it to rise.

3. Divide the dough into four equal balls. Separate the balls so that they don't stick together. Let them sit another 20 minutes.

4. Lightly flour the breadboard again. Dust flour on your rolling pin and your hands as well.

5. Pat one of the four balls into a 5-inch circle. Use the rolling pin to roll the tortilla into an eight-inch circle. Be careful not to use too much flour. Do not reroll the dough or it may be too chewy to enjoy. If the tortilla sticks to the breadboard, run a flat spatula under it to loosen it.

6. Continue to cook the flour tortillas. Brown the tortilla in a lightly greased skillet. Turn it over to brown the other side. Keep the tortillas in a warming basket as you continue to cook the rest of them.
