Make Lowfat Smoothies

One low-fat smoothie can contain almost all of your daily fruit and vegetable needs.

A smoothie doesn't have to be a fancy drink with hidden fat that you can only get at a juice bar. You can make a delicious and healthy drink right at home with any combination of your favorite fruits and vegetables, water or ice and a little low-fat or fat-free yogurt. Experiment with interesting pairs of produce and thickness until you find the perfect smoothie recipe.

Instructions

1. Chop three to five servings of raw fruits and vegetables into small pieces -- choose any combination you like. Place the pieces into the blender.

2. Use different kinds of fruit. Use bananas to make smoothies thicker, fruit like berries to make them sweeter, or high-nutrient fruits like kiwis to make them even healthier. Add vegetables that don't have strong tastes like carrots and cucumbers for an extra health boost.

3. Add a few tablespoons of wheat germ or some wheat grass for added nutrients.

4. Add 1 or 2 cups of liquid to the blender. For a completely fat-free smoothie, use cold water and ice, skim milk and fat-free yogurt. For a low-fat smoothie, you can use low-fat yogurt, 1 percent milk and low-fat sherbet.

5. Blend the contents of the blender until smooth. Add extra liquid if needed.
