Make A Barbecue Branding Iron

Barbecuing is a great way to spend time outdoors while preparing your food in the open air. What can be a nice twist is making your own barbecue branding iron and branding the steaks before serving them to your guests. You can even make the brands as gifts or sell them at craft shows.

Instructions

1. Purchase a piece of steel from a hardware store or a metal supply company. These can be found in a phone book or online. The steel needs to be heavy enough to withstand the heat from the barbecue.

2. Draw the design of the brand on a piece of paper. Keep the design fairly simple so you can make it easily out of metal. As your skill with a cutting torch increases, the difficulty of your designs can increase as well.

3. Trace the brand design onto the metal, then cut it out using an oxy-acetylene torch. You can also hire someone to cut the shape out for you (look in the phone book for metal workers or black smiths).

4. Cut another piece of metal into a circle with the torch, and tack the brand and the circle together with a welder. This also can be done by a professional.

5. Make a handle out of a thin piece of pipe, and cover the end with a piece of rubber. Weld the handle to the back of the circle (not on the brand).

6. Delight your guests when your serve them steaks branded with your barbecue branding iron.
