Make A Bow Out Of Fondant

Bring cake decorating to a new level by making decorations out of fondant. An elegant fondant bow atop your cake may be the only decoration needed. Learn make it following these easy steps.

Instructions

1. Form your fondant into a ball about the size of a baseball.

2. Roll the fondant with a rolling pin until it is about 1/4-inch thick. If the fondant is too thin, it will break. If it is too thick, it will take a long time to dry.

3. Lay the flattened fondant on a hard surface. Use a sharp knife or cutter to cut the fondant into strips. The strips will be the ribbon of the bow, so cut them according to your cake size and how big you want the bow.

4. Lay the strips over a dowel about an inch thick.

5. Press the ends together after wetting them with water. This will allow the ends to stick together around the dowel. The fondant will dry in this position and hold this shape.

6. Place a large drop of icing in the center of a small square of wax paper. This will be where the ends of the bow stick together.

7. Remove the fondant pieces carefully from the dowel. Stick the twisted ends into the drop of icing enough to cover it.

8. Allow the bow and icing to set until the icing is dry. Remove the wax paper, and apply the bow to your cake.
