DuoDERM patches cover wounds.
DuoDERM patches are manufactured by ConvaTec and are used in medical settings to aid in wound healing. DuoDERM patches cover the wound and can be worn for up to a week without replacement.
Function
DuoDERM patches work to create a healing environment for wounds. When the patch contacts the skin, it forms a gel to create a moist healing environment, according to the ConvaTec DuoDERM website. The outer edge of the patch creates a waterproof barrier around the wound and the patch works to heal the wound and keep exposed nerve endings moist, preventing discomfort.
Types
ConvaTec offers five different types of DuoDERM patches on its website. The Signal dressing is used in wounds with little discharge. The CGF sterile dressing usages include ulcer dressing, burn covering and superficial wound covering. The CGF Border dressing is used to cover wounds in hard-to-cover areas. The DuoDERM Hydroactive and Extra Thin dressings also are available for wound covering and dressing.
Benefits
DuoDERM patches allow for an increased rate of healing and a reduced chance of infection while keeping a wound clean, covered and as pain-free as possible.
