Standard Length
Generally, window blinds come in standard lengths of 64 or 72 inches. These standard sizes are often readily available at discount, department and window-treatment stores. Custom-made blinds have to be ordered. They take longer to ship and are more costly. Order the best quality you can afford when buying custom-made blinds; you want them to be durable and last for a long time.
Standard Width
Window blinds that are standard or ready-made fit most common windows in a home or building. This means you can purchase or order them from almost any manufacturer or store without incurring the cost of having them custom-made. Most standard size windows are 36 inches wide, therefore so are window blinds.
Standard Slat Size
Slats come in one of three standard sizes -- 1/2 inch, 1 inch and 2 inches. According to the Mini-Blinds website, the 1/2-inch slat is the most popular because it gives homes a modern contemporary feel. One-inch versions are a compromise between the narrowest and widest blinds because they take less labor to manufacture than the 1/2-inch slats and are slightly less expensive. People who want an old-fashioned or Old World appeal generally choose the 2-inch slats, which are reminiscent of older-style venetian blinds. These also tend to be the least expensive for the homeowner on a budget.
