Pergo Casual Living
Hi I am installing Pergo in a bedroom with a wood subfloor. This room is above a crawl space with a concrete floor. I have been told that I do not need to put plastic moisture barrier under the pergo. I was told to roll out tar paper and install the pergo over this. Any suggestions? My first suggestion would be to quit listening to whoever is giving you that advice. lol. A plastic vapor barrier is not required on a plywood subfloor, but tar paper (asphalt saturated felt paper) is not for use under a floating floor. Tar paper would only be used when stapling/nailing hardwood floors. Under the pergo, you need to use an underlayment designed for floating floors (foam, rubber, cork, etc.). Many have vapor barriers attached, but one with a vapor barrier is not required. If you want to stay cheap, go to HD and pick up their 1/8 white foam underlay pad, will probably run you 25-30 cents a s/f.
