In any event, there are several ways to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.
Instructions
1. Pick your poison. A Tootsie Pop's chewy chocolate center is protected by a thick shell of hard candy whose flavors are indicated by the various colored wrappers. Special editions and holiday versions aside, your classic choices will be grape, cherry, orange, chocolate and raspberry.
2. Try the lick method. The age-old question, after all, is "How many licks?" This method should only be employed if you are committed to spending a great deal of time licking and counting. So as not to lose count, it is suggested that you stop occasionally to write your current tally down. Few people have seen this experiment through without cheating, so good luck.
3. Pop the lollipop in your mouth. Sucking is still a gradual process, but it's a heck of a lot faster than a barrage of licks. Your tongue may very well thank you for the hardship it will be spared. After a few minutes, a chocolaty core will be your reward.
4. Suck the Tootsie Pop until you see the first telltale hints of chewy goodness, then bite down. 6. Crack the sucker on a hard surface, thus shattering the protective barrier and getting straight to the heart of the matter. In this case, you may feel robbed of the sense of accomplishment you can only get from working your way through the fruity shell to get to the prize.
