Use Silicone Baking Pans For Meatloaf

Make meatloaf in a silicone pan.

Lightweight silicone baking pans can go from freezer to oven to dishwasher. The flexible pans release food easily and stack or even collapse for storage. Silicone doesn't retain odors like plastic and distributes heat well for even cooking. However, because of its flexibility, silicone can be hard to handle and you may need to adjust cooking times for recipes.

Instructions

1. Prepare your favorite meatloaf recipe as usual. For example, you could mix 1 lb. ground meat with 1 cup bread or cracker crumbs, 1 egg, ½ cup chopped onion, 1/4 cup ketchup, ½ tsp. Italian seasoning and 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce. Mix well with your clean hands or a spoon.

2. Place the meat mixture in a silicone loaf pan. Silicone pans are non-stick, so you don't need to grease the pan.

3. Set the filled pan on a cookie sheet and slide it into an oven set at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The cookie sheet supports the bottom of the pan and makes it easier to get the meatloaf in and out of the oven.

4. Bake for ½ hour. Pull the meatloaf out. If you find a lot of fat floating on top of the meatloaf, carefully pour it off. Check if the meatloaf is done. If it isn't, return it to the oven and check every 10 minutes until it is done. Note the cooking time on your recipe so that the next time you make the meatloaf you will know how long to cook it.

5. Slide the cookie sheet out of the oven, using oven mitts. Grasp the silicone loaf pan by one end. Lift this end and slide your other hand, protected by an oven mitt, beneath the bottom of the pan to support it. Place an empty plate or serving dish over the top of the meatloaf. Invert the pan and plate and carefully remove the silicone pan. The meatloaf should slide onto the plate.
