Broccoli Cauliflower Onion Bacon Salad

Say goodbye to your traditional garden salad.

Create a nontraditional salad by combining healthy produce like broccoli, cauliflower and onions. The colorful salad also includes bacon to add a crisp texture. Enjoy the chilled salad on a hot summer day for a simple lunch, or make it for a potluck for your guests to enjoy. Prepare the salad at least two hours in advance so that it has adequate time to chill.

Instructions

1. Cook 12 slices of bacon in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned evenly. Drain the grease from the bacon. Allow it to cool and then crumble it.

2. Slice the stems off the broccoli and cauliflower close to the heads to separate them into florets. Cut the large florets in half.

3. Remove the skin from the red onion. Chop the red onion into small pieces.

4. Combine the broccoli, cauliflower and onion in a bowl. Top the salad with the crumbled bacon.

5. Make a light dressing by mixing the mayonnaise, vegetable oil, white vinegar and white sugar in a separate bowl. Pour the dressing over the salad.

6. Blend the salad by mixing it with salad tongs. Chill the salad in the refrigerator for two hours.
