Peanut Butter Snacks With Fritos

Instead of serving Fritos with a cheesy dip, combine them with peanut butter for a snack.

Fritos brand corn chips and peanut butter are each tasty snacks on their own, but when combined, they create a sweet and salty treat with the same appeal as chocolate-covered pretzels or salted caramels. The next time a snack attack arises, try a new treat with a sweet and salty appeal.

Peanut Butter Fritos Bark

Create a candy-like concoction with corn chips. A recipe on the Pioneer Woman website combines corn syrup, sugar and peanut butter and pours this over Fritos arranged on a baking tray. Once cooled, the snack is broken off into chunks to eat. Tailor this sweet snack by adding other ingredients to the Fritos on the baking tray. Try combining candy-coated chocolates with the Fritos or roasted peanuts to enhance the peanut flavor.

Chocolate Caramel Topped Fritos

Another recipe for a Fritos candy from Recipe Tips combines a sugar syrup with peanut butter, melted chocolate and butterscotch chips. Make this your own recipe by changing some of the steps or ingredients. Instead of baking this onto the Fritos to make a bark candy, leave the candy topping separate for dipping the Fritos. The sweet combination of chocolate, peanut butter and butterscotch foils the saltiness of the Fritos corn chips.

Sweet Fritos Pie

Traditional recipes for Frito pie call for a bed of Fritos to be topped with chili and shredded cheese. For a sweet snack, the Frito Lay company, which makes Fritos, offers a recipe for vanilla-caramel corn Fritos pie. Their recipe requires Fritos to be stirred into vanilla pudding and topped with berries and caramel sauce. Change this recipe to include peanut butter by topping the Fritos and vanilla pudding mixture with either chocolate-covered peanut butter cups or honey-roasted peanuts. Melt peanut butter in the microwave for 30 seconds on high to thin it and drizzle the peanut butter over the sweet snack instead of caramel sauce.

Trail Mix

A recipe on the website Chow calls it Fritos candy, but it could also be adapted to trail mix. The website recipe pours melted brown sugar and chocolate over pretzels, Fritos and miniature peanut butter cups. The mixture is baked in the oven and cooled to harden the coating. To adapt this recipe, replace the melted chocolate chips with melted peanut butter baking chips. Add breakfast cereal, peanuts, popped popcorn or raisins to the mixture. If desired, omit coating the mixture with the melted chocolate and sugar mixture and just eat the Fritos, peanut butter chips, pretzels and peanut butter cups as a dry trail mix.
