What Is The Correct Way To Eat Raw Oysters

Oysters make a fast and nutritional meal.

There is no right or wrong way to eat oysters, but there is a common way to eat oysters. Oysters can be eaten raw or cooked and seasoned with everything from Tabasco sauce to lemon juice. A raw oyster can make you sick. Before eating a raw oyster, look inside the oyster shell for seawater. A healthy oyster shell should have some seawater. Also the oyster meat should be opaque in color, and should fill the shell. A thin oyster is an indication of a bad oyster. And oysters that have been plucked from their shell should never be eaten raw.

Instructions

1. Add seasonings such as Tabasco sauce or lemon juice to the oyster. You can eat the oyster without additional seasonings.

2. Stick the shellfish fork into the oyster shell and move the oyster around in the shell to detach it. But don't remove the oyster from its shell.

3. Put down the oyster fork.

4. Pick up the oyster in its shell and cradle it between your first two fingers and thumb. Look for the best edge to slurp up the oyster -- this edge is typically the smoothest.

5. Place the shell against your lip, tip it and slurp the oyster into your mouth.
