Flavor Homemade Pasta Dough

Flavor Homemade Pasta Dough

There are a variety of different ways to flavor homemade pasta dough, limited only by your taste. Making pasta at home from scratch can be rewarding enough, both as a way to use your resources and save money. Many pasta makers also take pride in creating a meal from scratch that is both tasty and something you can make a last a while, depending on how much you are making. Like using a blank canvas, adding your own flavors to homemade pasta dough is limited only by your imagination.

Instructions

1. Combine flour and salt.

2. Make a well or a "bowl" in center of flour.

3. Add olive oil into center of "bowl."

4. Break in egg or egg substitute and whisk with oil using fork.

5. Add in water by the tablespoonful until dough starst to cling together.

6. Knead dough by hand until you have a tacky consistency

7. Add your flavorings, whether they are vegetables or spices. Tips on using different flavorings are listed below.

8. Form into a little ball, brush with olive oil, and leave covered under wet towel in a warm place for 20 to 30 minutes.

9. Divide dough into managemable sections, usually 4 to 6 sections

10. Roll the pasta. This step depends entirely on what kind of pasta you are making. You can start rolling sections out flat to feed through your pasta machine, or start rolling and cutting by hand if making a different kind of pasta.

11. At this point you can save anf freeze the rest of the dough if you are not using the whole batch. Flour dusted onto wax paper is the best method of freezing pasta dough.
