Types Of Fondant That Go Well With Carrot Cake

If you are planning on serving carrot cake at your wedding, birthday party or other social gathering, flavored fondant can be the perfect finishing touch. Fondant covers the entire surface of the cake, making it easy to obtain a flat, smooth, completely seamless finish. Because carrot cake has a spiced flavor to it, it tastes best when paired with creamy, sweet fondant flavors rather than rich, bold ones.

Purpose

Fondant is commonly used by both professional and amateur cake bakers to create a seamless finish on cakes. Fondant is usually used on formal, tiered cakes, such as wedding cakes, but can be used on any cake of your choosing. Fondant can help you get a smooth finish on the surface of your carrot cake, as fondant has a flatter finish than traditional icing.

Types

There are several different types of fondant to choose from when decorating your carrot cake. Rolled fondant is rolled much like cookie dough and draped over the top and sides of the cake. Pourable fondant is poured over the top and sides of the cake while it is still in liquid form. Marshmallow fondant is made from marshmallow cream and has a fluffy texture. It is slightly sweeter in taste. You can use any type of fondant you wish on your carrot cake, as each type is available in a wide variety of flavors.

Flavors

Cream cheese is the flavor most commonly associated with carrot cake, so a cream cheese fondant will taste good on top of your cake. Other flavors that can add extra zest and flavor to your carrot cake include vanilla, butter cream, almond and orange. You can also use plain marshmallow cream fondant if you are seeking a sweeter topping.

Considerations

If your carrot cake is tiered you can mix and match fondant flavors by using a different flavor on each tier. For example, the bottom tier of the carrot cake could be covered in cream cheese rolled fondant while the top tier could be covered with vanilla flavored marshmallow fondant.
