Measure Ingredients For Baking Homemade Bread

Baking is one of the oldest professions in the world. It's thought that the Egyptians invented the oven; they obviously used to make bread because archaeologists have found loaves in their tombs. You can mix up a batch of bread yourself, by hand or mixer, but be sure you correctly measure ingredients for baking homemade bread.


Instructions


1. Use measuring cups and spoons for all liquids and dry ingredients. A digital kitchen scale also works for dry ingredients.


2. Measure the yeast with a measuring spoon and dump into a large bowl.


3. Run water until it's room temperature and then use a liquid measuring cup to get the exact quantity needed. Pour the water into the yeast and stir. It's important for the water to be room temperature for the yeast to work properly.


4. Mix together the milk, sugar, salt and oil and add them to the yeast mixture.


5. Lightly spoon the flour into a dry measuring cup, then level with a knife. Do not pack the flour in. Mix in 1 cup of flour at a time, using a dough hook if your mixer has one. Knead the dough until it becomes very smooth. If necessary, add a little flour to keep the dough from sticking to the bowl.
