Make Homemade Roasted Sunflower Seeds

Make homemade roasted sunflower seeds to enjoy a healthy snack.


If you have a large amount of edible sunflower seeds, you can roast them to enjoy the seeds as a snack. You can make homemade roasted sunflower seeds at home with your family and give them away as gifts to your friends and neighbors. Sunflower seeds are full of Vitamin E, are a good source of magnesium and help to lower cholesterol.


Instructions


1. Place the unshelled sunflower seeds into a colander. Rinse them off completely.


2. Combine ¼ cup of salt with 2 qts. of water in a bowl. Add the sunflower seeds to cover them completely with the salt water. Let the seeds soak for 24 hours.


3. Drain the seeds in a colander. Rinse them off and pat them dry with paper towels.


4. Spread the sunflower seeds in a single layer on a baking sheet.








5. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Roast the sunflower seeds for 30 minutes. Stir them every 10 minutes to prevent them from scorching.








6. Remove the baking tray from the oven. Allow it to cool on a wire rack.


7. Season the sunflower seeds by tossing them in ½ tsp. of oil for every 2 cups of seeds. Sprinkle the seeds with your preferred seasoning like garlic or cayenne powder. Store the seeds in sealed plastic bags or containers.
