Replace a Garage Door Opener Remote
There's almost nothing more convenient than a garage door that can be opened from inside the car. Helping you bypass the cold, wind and rain, a remote-enabled garage door can only do its job as long as the remote is functional. Garage remotes do go bad, and sometimes they require replacement. Although an initial and sometime expensive pain, quickly replacing a lost or broken remote is the best way to handle things.
Instructions
1. Determine the brand and model number of your garage remote. This may entail climbing a ladder to get a closer look as some manufacturers require a serial number, or referring to the owner's manual.
2. Buy the new remote. This can be done online, over the phone or in person, if getting to an authorized dealer is possible. Have all relevant information with you if you do decide to go that route.
3. Program the remote to work with your opener. The process for this varies, depending on the model and manufacturer. However, it usually involves having a second remote, so have that handy.
4. Put the remote in your car once you've confirmed it works.
5. Buy an extra battery for the remote and store it in the glove compartment to avoid a problem caused by an expired battery.
Tips Warnings
If your remote was stolen, then change the code on the unit in the garage.
Avoid generic or off-brand remotes and stick with an OEM model.
