Help with buying new condenser- R22 to 410
i need to purchase a 2 ton lennox XC16 elite series airconditioning condenser because my hvac contractor put in a one stage 3 ton Lennox which is making the house very humid. It appears to be too large. I previously had a 2 ton york compressor. Do I need to replace my old York air furnace model # is P3USO16N105018 with a new lennox airhandler in order for the Lennox condenser to work or can I keep the old York furnace (it was a R22 model) Last, how much does the Lennoc XC 16 aircondioning compressor usually cost? Any help would be appreciated. From r22 to r410a, both condenser and evaporator must be replaced. line set must also be checked to make sure it can handle the higher pressure. R-22 compressors manufactured before 1/1/10 can still be sold. You might see if one is available - possibly arrange a swap. your going to get price gouged on a r-22 system since everyone is crossing over to 410a stuff. So just get a new 410a I'm unsure why if everyone is going to R-410A, that would make an R-22 replacement compressor, if available, become more expensive. Seems like economic theory would predict the opposite. your exactly right it would make it very expensive. And why everyone is going to r410a is because they stopped making anything for r-22 brand new so it forces you to go ahead and change to 410a anyway. So go ahead and buy that r22 system (used since they dont make new parts anymore) and in 4 years when you need a replacement part or a whole new system you wont be able to get it or again someone will have it and price gouge you and you will end up having to buy 410 anyway. And 410 is more green which is why everyone is switching to it. Yes, R-410A is the way to go these days but R-22 replacement parts and alternate refrigerants will be available for a very long time. It seems to me like some are not exactly aware of what is available or are using scare tactics to stimulate sales! Is the present R-22 evaporator at 2-ton unit? And you want to downsize from a 3- to a 2-ton compressor? If you can find a 2-ton R-22 compressor built before 1/1/10, then your present evaporator is good to go. If you replace the compressor with a R-410A unit, then you'll have to replace the whole shebang. Check about a compressor swap, 3-ton to 2-ton (R-22). By the way, you don't need to get fixated on a particular model compressor, Lennox or otherwise. You can substitute a different brand. Let's keep the terminology straight..... They no longer are allowed to manufacture new CONDENSING UNITS using R22. Replacement parts...i.e. COMPRESSORS..for R22 equipment will be available for the life of the equipment, but as time goes by, and the population of R22 equipment dies off, parts will become more scarce and more expensive. Just like parts for cars get more expensive as the car gets older.
