Serve Greek Pita

Give a Mediterranean taste to almost any dish by adding versatile Greek pita to your recipe. Readily available and easy to use, pocket-less Greek pitas pair well with most flavor combinations. Read the steps below to discover how you can serve delicious Greek pita at breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Instructions

1. Brush raw Greek pitas with olive oil and grill them over hot coals until lines form. Then tear them into small pieces and toss into a salad of field greens.

2. Pile a Greek pita high with shaved Virginia ham and thinly sliced tomatoes. Top with coarsely grated cheddar cheese and brown in butter on a hot grill just until the cheese melts. Serve as a lunch or quick dinner.

3. Warm a pita in microwave or moderate oven just until soft. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar. Top with thinly sliced grilled steak and tidbits of roasted asparagus. Serve as a hot knife and fork sandwich for lunch or dinner.

4. Spread pita halves with garlic-infused extra virgin olive oil and lightly toast in a hot grill pan. Then place pitas on bottom of deep soup bowls. Pour hot soup over pitas and allow them to sit a few minutes to absorb some of the soup.

5. Allow the pita to double as a thin crust for a Mexican pizza. First toast pita lightly on oiled baking sheet. Spread fresh chopped tomatoes, spicy ground beef, fried onions and shredded Cheddar cheese over pita. Return the pita to the oven just until cheese melts.

6. Toast a pita on a baking stone in a hot oven until it's golden brown. Remove and brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with crumbled feta cheese, finely chopped scallions and fresh dill. Cut into wedges and serve as a cheese hors d'oeuvre.
