Hydrangea Wedding Bouquet Ideas

Hydrangeas grow in April.

Hydrangea macrophylla plants bloom with large pink or blue leaves. Sprouting in springtime, hydrangea bushes can grow to between 4 and 12 feet. Crafting hydrangea wedding bouquets adds elegance and delicacy to any floral design. Use hydrangeas throughout the wedding in various capacities to add creativity and grace to the entire event. Hydrangeas are simple to arrange and fit well together whether stems are tied together with lace or positioned into a vase.

Bridal Bouquets

Craft a bouquet for the bride-to-be. Bridal bouquets are fashioned with sophistication and style when using between six to 10 stems. Hydrangea petals are large and, depending upon the maturity of the plant, bridal bouquets can have a large and overwhelming feel or be simple and chic. Pink hydrangeas are a beautiful way to highlight the purity of the bride and complement the traditional white gown.

Bridesmaid Bouquets

Use hydrangeas for all bride and bridesmaid bouquets to boost the appeal of the flower. Bridesmaid's bouquets are smaller than the bride's, so if the bride is holding six stems, bridesmaids might hold three. Altering the color of the flowers for the bridesmaids is a wise differentiating maneuver as well. Craft bridesmaid bouquets with blue hydrangeas, instead of pink; or add a small essence of pink -- perhaps one stem -- surrounded by a blue bouquet. Additionally, the blue or pink bouquets can match the color scheme of the bridesmaids' dresses for an aesthetic touch.

Add Additional Flowers

Bridal or bridesmaid bouquets can also be enhanced with the addition of other types of flowers. Given the size of the hydrangea leaf and its natural pastel shade, adding a bold flower of a different type can increase the attractiveness of the bouquet. A bouquet of blue and pink hydrangeas, for example, may encase a small grouping of red-colored roses. Contrasting colors, shades and varieties of flowers is a charming way to add creative expression to your wedding day.

Reception Bouquets

Carry the hydrangea theme over from the wedding party and ceremony to the reception. Arrange the flowers into classy glass vases and place them as the visual centerpiece on top of each dinner table. Position small bouquets of hydrangeas on walls or use the flowers as decorative trim around archways. Consider using individual flower petals to scatter around the base of the wedding cake to add visual enhancement. The individual petals may be collected as leftovers from the flower girl's basket.
