Make Popcorn Balls For Birds

When the long, cold days of winter set in, remember that your feathered friends will appreciate a satisfying snack, too. Hang a popcorn ball for birds outside of your window, and watch the birds as they enjoy their nourishing treat

Instructions

1. Pop the popcorn and place it in a large mixing bowl.

2. Combine the sugar, corn syrup and water in a large saucepan over medium heat.

3. Cook the mixture to hard-ball stage, 250 degrees. Stir in the vanilla extract.

4. Pour the hot mixture slowly over the popcorn, stirring as you pour to make sure that every popcorn kernel is coated.

5. Press the warm popcorn mixture into balls, working a piece of string into each ball. You can hang the popcorn ball with the string, and later, the birds will use it to build their nest

6. Put some birdseed into a shallow dish or piepan and roll the warm popcorn balls into the seeds.

7. Allow the popcorn ball to cool completely, and then set it outside, or hang it on a branch for the birds to enjoy.
