Drinks To Make With Rum

Rum is a distilled sugarcane spirit that is traditionally produced in the Caribbean islands. As the most prevalent liquor used in Caribbean cocktails, rum helps create delicious tropical inspired drinks. Many rums can have a complex flavor with undertones of vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon, and they pair perfectly with fruits of the tropics. With a blender, you can create many delicious rum drinks inspired by the tropics.

Pina Colada

In a blender, combine 1 cup of ice, 1/2 cup of cream of coconut, 1/2 cup of fresh chopped pineapple and two shots of dark rum. Blend until smooth and pour into a glass. Garnish with a wedge of pineapple stuck on the rim of the glass.

The pina colada was invented in Puerto Rico, but many other islands serve this drink featuring their own locally brewed rum. If you don't have fresh pineapple, you can use drained, canned pineapple. Also, to save on calories, you can replace the cream of coconut with light coconut milk.

Mango and Lime Coloada

Just like the coconut- and pineapple-based pina colada, mango and lime are a perfect partner to rum. In a blender, combine 1 cup of ice, 1/2 cup of chopped, ripe mango, juice of half a lime, zest of one lime and 1/2 cup of cream of coconut. Blend this mixture till creamy and smooth. Pour into a glass and serve with a lime wedge as a garnish.

Bahama Mama

A favorite from the Bahamas is the Bahama Mama. In a blender, combine a shot of coconut rum, a shot of dark rum, two shots of fresh orange juice, two shots of pineapple juice and a splash of grenadine. Blend these ingredients till smooth and garnish with a cherry.

Tropical Breeze

Combine two shots of orange juice, half a banana, two shots of pineapple juice, one shot of triple sec and one shot of rum in a blender. Blend till smooth and garnish with a pineapple wedge or orange slice.
