Ship Blue Cheese

Crumbled blue cheese has a shorter shelf life than cheese blocks.

Shipping any type of food can be a tricky endeavor, but blue cheese presents its own challenges. For example, the shelf life on blue cheese varies from one to four weeks depending on whether it is crumbled or formed in a block. If you want your blue cheese to arrive at its destination unspoiled and ready to eat, pack it tightly, keep it cool and expedite shipping.

Instructions

1. Pack crumbled blue cheese in a food safe container and shut the lid to create an airtight seal. Wrap blocks of blue cheese in parchment paper and cover in plastic wrap. Place the wrapped block into your food safe container and close the lid.

2. Reach out to your recipient to ensure someone will be home when the package arrives. Ask her to be prepared to refrigerate the blue cheese immediately after it arrives.

3. Set the blue cheese into a sturdy, corrugated shipping box, a box with enough room to add cushioning material. Place frozen gel freezer packs around the blue cheese and fill in any extra space with bubble wrap. Seal the opening of your box and any seams with 2-inch packing tape.

4. Take your box to your shipper and choose a shipping method that takes one to two days (any longer and your cheese may spoil). Complete the shipping label with your address and the address of your recipient. Pay for shipping and alert your recipient their blue cheese is on its way.
