Instructions To Make Amaretto Sours

Ask the bartender to use the original amaretto liqueur for an authentic drink.

Made with an almond-flavored liqueur known as amaretto, amaretto sours have become a commonly served drink in many bars and restaurants. The amaretto liqueur was originally created in Saronno, Italy. Although there are several variations of amaretto sour recipes, the original consists of amaretto and a sweet and sour mix. The mix can be purchased pre-made, but it's simple to create your own sweet and sour mix with lemon juice and sugar syrup.

Sweet and Sour Mix

Mix 8 oz. of fresh lemon juice with 2 tbsp. of sugar to create the sweet and sour mix.

Liqueur

Pour 1 1/2 oz. of amaretto liqueur into a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice.

Cocktail Shaker

Add one or two splashes of the sweet and sour mix into the cocktail shaker. Shake the cocktail shaker well and pour the mix into a chilled glass.

Garnish

Garnish with a maraschino cherry and an orange slice and serve.
