Chicago's Greektown neighborhood pays homage to its Greek roots dating back to the Greek ship captains' arrival to the area in the 1840s. The Greek Islands restaurant began in 1971, when a group of immigrants moved from Greece to Greektown Chicago. Greek Islands imports its own ingredients from Greece including extra-virgin olive oil, wine, cheeses, seafood, olives, herbs and spices. Greek Islands is open for lunch and dinner and serves menu features such as Taramosalata, considered a Greek version of caviar with a combination of cod, potatoes onions and olive oil; grilled octopus; and Sokolatina, which is layers of chocolate cake with chocolate filling.

Venus Greek-Cypriot Cuisine
Venus Greek-Cypriot Cuisine is the only Greek restaurant in Chicago that serves Mediterranean Cypriot Cuisine, which is the food served in Cyprus. Venus possesses Middle Eastern, French, Italian and British influences. The restaurant offers a variety of foods from its dinner menu, but also provides a gluten-free menu, kid's menu, wine menu and dessert menu. A Venus specialty includes Manitaria Afelia, which is Portabella mushroom marinated in wine and dry coriander. It's served on top of grilled vegetables. The gluten-free menu includes options such as Kotopoulo Sti Schara, which is broiled chicken with olive oil, lemon and oregano.
