Kraft's Postum was a warm beverage widely used as a substitute for coffee, either due to a shortage of coffee at various times or as a caffeine-free coffee alternative. Postum dipped in popularity in recent years and is no longer being manufactured by Kraft. Many consumers miss Postum and wish Kraft would bring it back. Some alternatives to Postum are currently being manufactured.
Instructions
1. Buy original Postum on auction sites. Some sealed cans are still available and sold as collector's items, as they have passed their expiration dates and cannot be sold as food. Sellers indicate that the product is still usable past its expiration date; buyers beware.
2. Try Cafix instead (see Resources). Cafix is made of roasted barley, chicory and rye. Its flavor is similar to Postum. It contains no stimulants.
3. Check out Pero (see Resources). Pero is another substitute for Postum. Pero is made with malted barley, barley, chicory and rye. It is caffeine-free.
4. Consider other coffee substitutes like decaffeinated teas. Teas have been proven to have numerous health benefits. Green and black teas contain potent antioxidants.
5. Withdraw from caffeine slowly. If you would like to stop ingesting caffeine, it's best to wean yourself off slowly. If you cut it out cold turkey, you may end up with a painful headache. Try cutting your consumption down about 10 percent every other day. In less than 2 weeks, you'll be free of caffeine without any unpleasant effects.
