Use Celery Seed In Cooking

Celery Seed is the dried fruit of the plant Apium graveolens, a wild variety of common celery. These small, brownish-green seeds have a flavor similar to celery combined with fennel or anise. Celery seed is particularly useful when you want to add a celery flavor to a cooked dish when the crispy crunch of the actual vegetable is undesired.


Instructions








1. Create a fragrant bouquet garni that includes celery seed. A bouquet garni is a bundle of herbs and spices enclosed in a small, cheesecloth sack and immersed in simmering stews, broths and soups for added flavor. Remove the bouquet garni before serving.








2. Make classic bread and butter pickles using celery seed for flavoring. Serve the pickles alongside sandwiches or hamburgers or eat them alone for a deliciously tart snack.


3. Sprinkle ground celery seed on cold-cut sandwiches for an added kick.


4. Add celery seed to any potato salad recipe for a fresh, summery taste.


5. Season hearty, New England clam chowder with celery seed.
