Cook With Pepper Jelly

Use pepper jelly to top any type of toast or biscuit.

The uses for pepper jelly seem unending. Any cook's largest limitation when cooking with pepper jelly is the preferences of those for whom they cook. Everything from sweet treats to savory foods to snacks can be spruced up with the addition of pepper jelly. Sauces, dressings and dips are popular ways of using this unconventional spread.

Instructions

1. Chicken breast is spiced up with pepper jelly.

Use pepper jelly to flavor chicken. Chicken breasts, thighs and legs can be spiced up with a few tablespoons of jalapeño pepper jelly. A recipe from Food Dot Com explains a way to pan-fry your chicken with pepper jelly sauce. Put 3 tbsp. of jalapeno jelly in a skillet with vinegar and chicken broth. Simmer this down until it thickens into a sauce. Spoon the sauce over three or four pan-fried chicken breasts.

2. Spread pepper jelly on just about any type of burger, sandwich or open faced bread. Add pepper jelly to a burger to spice it up and add some quick flavor. Everyday Health tops turkey burgers with cucumber, cream cheese and pepper jelly for a healthy, fresh taste. Pepper jelly can top morning toast, bagels or even pancakes for the sweet and savory lover. Serious East suggests making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with pepper jelly in place of fruit jam.

3. Make sauces and dips with pepper jelly and simple additions. Horseradish sauce mixed with an equal part of pepper jelly makes a dipping sauce. Serve it with deep fried fish and chips. Add mustard, olive oil and red wine vinegar to some pepper jelly to make a spicy salad vinaigrette dressing.

4. Top salmon with pepper jelly as a glaze. "Better Homes and Gardens" features a pepper jelly and soy glazed salmon recipe on its website. Fresh or frozen salmon are both acceptable. Onion, ginger, sesame oil, cilantro, crushed red peppers and fresh jalapenos are combined with red vinegar and pepper jelly to create a fresh glaze. This sauce is placed on top of a soy-marinated piece of salmon for an Eastern spicy flavor. Another salmon flavor comes from mixing bourbon, honey, butter and pepper jelly to create glaze for the fish. This taste is much more savory and traditional.

5. Serve pepper jelly alongside appetizers. Fancy cheeses, Grissini, breadsticks or crackers served with pepper jelly create spicy appetizers that impress guests. Top crackers with cream cheese and pepper jelly for a tasty treat before a meal.

6. Spice up desserts with pepper jelly.

Add spice to sweetness by using pepper jelly to top cheesecakes and pound cakes. The jelly adds a dimensional visual effect to the cake along with a surprising spicy twist in flavor. Fruit and pepper combination jellies are popular for dessert uses. They keep the cake sweet while hinting at a deeper, bolder taste.
