Make Popcorn Candies & Popcorn Balls

Popcorn candy and popcorn balls make great holiday party snacks.


Popcorn candies, with a candy cane flavor, would make a delicious and unusual addition to the snack table at a Christmas party. The colorful candies will coordinate with holiday decorations. Homemade popcorn balls are a fall favorite. The sticky snacks are a big hit with ghosts and goblins of all ages. Packaged in colorful cellophane and labeled with the candy-maker's name and address, the delicious popcorn balls are a special Halloween treat for a costumed small fry.


Instructions


Make Popcorn Candy


1. Place the candy canes, two at a time, in a plastic, sealable bag and close. Crush the candy canes with the mallet. Repeat until all candy canes are crushed into small pieces about the size of a rice kernel.


2. Place the popped popcorn in a large bowl.


3. Melt the candy melt discs in a small bowl in the microwave oven for 10 seconds. Stir the melts. Repeat until the discs are completely melted.


4. Pour the melted coating and crushed candy cane over the popcorn. Stir thoroughly with your hands.


5. Cool the mixture for 20 minutes, and break the popcorn candy into bite-sized pieces.


Make the Popcorn Balls


6. Combine the corn syrup, butter, water, confectioner's sugar and marshmallows in the saucepan over medium heat on a stove top burner.


7. Heat and stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until the mixture begins to boil. Pour in the popped popcorn, and stir until each popcorn kernel is coated with the mixture.








8. Grease your hands with butter, and shape the coated popcorn into tennis ball-sized balls before the mixture cools.


9. Wrap each ball with plastic wrap. Store the popcorn balls at room temperature.
