Remove The Gamey Taste From Venison

Remove the gamey taste from venison before you cook the meat.

Venison is a lean meat that you can add to a variety of recipes. Many people do not enjoy the "gamey" flavor of the meat, which gives the meat an altered taste. You can remove the gamey taste from venison to make it more enjoyable to consume. You can prepare the venison with your preferred cooking method after you remove the gamey taste from the meat. Venison is low in fat and cholesterol, which makes it a healthy alternative to beef.

Instructions

1. Trim off the fat from the venison with a knife. A lot of the gamey flavor will reside in the fat on the meat. Remove the silver skin and the fat from the venison before you prepare it.

2. Combine 1 cup of vinegar and 1 qt. of cold water in a container large enough to hold the venison. You can double this ratio if you are soaking a large piece of venison.

3. Place the venison in the container and cover it with plastic wrap. The solution must cover the venison completely. Soak the venison overnight.

4. Remove the venison from the container. Add your preferred spices or marinades to the venison to help mask any remaining gamey flavor. A marinade also helps to tenderize the meat. Use a marinade that contains vinegar, tomato juice or wine for best results.
