A flashlight is necessary to make a rainbow light.
Children love seeing mysterious things, such as dust motes floating through the air,
visible only in the rays of a sunbeam; or they delight in the way you can make shadow puppets on a wall with a flashlight. Making a rainbow light with only a few simple supplies is a science project that will enthrall the youngsters and make them want to know more about science and the world around them. This is an interesting craft project for a dark night or on a day when rain showers keep children from playing outside.
Instructions
1. Put your flashlight facedown on the black construction paper, and trace the shape of the torch--the area where the light comes out. This will serve as a cover for the flashlight.
2. Cut a small slit in the round circle you cut out. You can do this with a sharp knife or scissors.
3. Place the black paper circle over the end of your flashlight to cover the torch area. Secure it with tape.
4. Pour water into a clear plastic box until it is halfway full.
5. Hold your flashlight on the outside of the plastic box (do not submerge it) and turn on the light.
6. Place a mirror somewhere on the other side of the clear plastic box, for example, lean it nearby against a wall surface.
7. Position the white card so it will catch the light reflected from the mirror. This will create a beautiful rainbow light.
