Serve homemade fries at your next cookout.
Homemade french fries are delicious and easy to make right in your own kitchen. All you need is five to 10 minutes to prepare the potatoes and about 20 to 25 minutes to cook them. Make quick and easy homemade french fries to go along with any meat dish and you'll have a super meal in about half an hour. Add a few dashes of salt and a dipping sauce, and you're ready to serve.
Instructions
1. Add vegetable oil to the correct line of your deep fryer and turn the fryer on to preheat.
2. Wash the potatoes and cut in medium-thick slices to create circles. Cut each potato circle lengthwise to make thick potato sticks. Set them aside.
3. Check the heat of the vegetable oil in the fryer using the indicator light, if it has one, or by lightly flicking a couple of drops of water into the fryer. Be careful, however, as water can splash back up toward you.
4. Place a few handfuls of potato sticks into the fryer basket once the oil is ready. Do not overfill the basket. Carefully slide the basket into the heated vegetable oil and cover with the fryer lid.
5. Cook the potato sticks about 20 minutes, checking every 10 minutes and shifting the potatoes in the oil. Once the fries are a nice golden brown, remove the basket from the fryer and allow the excess vegetable oil to drip back into the fryer.
6. Pour the fries onto paper towels laid over a plate so the grease can drain. Add a few dashes of salt and let the french fries cool.
7. Serve french fries with a dipping sauce, such as ketchup, vinegar or ranch dressing and a meat dish. Serves 4 people.
