Halloween Sandwich Ideas

Spice up your Halloween party with spooky-looking food.

If you are planning a Halloween party, make it one to remember by turning typical party snacks into scary-looking Halloween creations that look almost too real to eat. You can turn a plain old sandwich into a spooky Halloween creature with a little creative cutting, slicing and dicing. Choose the type of Halloween sandwiches you want to make based on whether you are having a children's party or an adult party, as young children will enjoy a friendly spider shape, but may be scared of creepier-looking sandwiches.

Creepy Crawler Sandwich

For a creepy crawler sandwich that kids will get a kick out of, use a brown bread such as pumpernickel. Press a large cup into the center of each piece of bread to make circle cutouts. Spread mayonnaise on one of the circles, then add a slice or two of turkey, and top with the other circle of bread. Thinly slice an orange bell pepper and stick four slices on each side of the sandwich to look like legs. Place two dabs of cream cheese on top of the sandwich and place a small piece of carrot in the center of each to resemble eyes.

Tapeworm Sandwich

All you need for this gross-looking sandwich is hot dogs, hot dog buns and ketchup. Before boiling the hot dogs, slice each one into thin strips. In boiling water they will stat to curl up, resembling worms. Drain the water from the pot and toss with a generous amount of ketchup so the "worms" look bloody. Place a few strips of hot dog into a hot dog bun to serve.

Witch-Finger Sandwich

Use refrigerated breadsticks in a can for creepy finger-shaped sandwiches. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees, and separate the breadsticks into 12 thin strips on a baking sheet. Cut a fingertip shape at one end of each breadstick and score the center of the bread with short horizontal lines to look like knuckles. Slice pepperoni into triangles to fit into the fingertip shape at the end of each breadstick. Bake the breadsticks in the oven for about 15 minutes, until golden brown. Split each breadstick lengthwise and place strips of cheese and lettuce into each. Add any other condiments you prefer and close the sandwich.

Graveyard Sandwich Tray

Impress your party guests with finger sandwiches made to look like a scary graveyard. First spread shredded lettuce all over the serving tray. Toast the bread, then prepare a variety of finger sandwiches such as tuna salad, chicken salad, turkey and cheese and egg salad sandwiches. Cut each sandwich into a tombstone shape and use ketchup and mustard bottles to decorate them with classic tombstone inscriptions such as "R.I.P," "Beloved," dates or skulls and crossbones. Place the sandwiches upright on the lettuce tray in various spaces to create the cemetery look.
