Prepare individual cups of gelatin salad for guests to enjoy.
The first patented gelatin dessert had no flavor and was difficult to prepare. In 1897, Pearle B. Wait added a fruity flavor to the mixture originally created by inventor Peter Cooper in 1845. Lemon, strawberry, raspberry and orange were the first four flavors the Jell-O company offered. Today, there are many gelatin brands to choose from and plenty of ways to use gelatin. One popular way to utilize the gel substance is by making a "salad." Fruits and vegetables are suspended in the gel and served chilled to guests. One way to make the jiggly dessert more eye-appealing is to decorate it with delicious garnishes.
Instructions
1. Wash 1 cup of grapes in a colander. Dry the grapes with a paper towel. Set the grapes in the center of the salad ring to fill the center space. If your gelatin salad is solid, halve the grapes and arrange the halves over the center of the mold.
2. Drain a jar of maraschino cherries. Spoon the cherries over the salad, spacing them apart a few inches.
3. Place an ice cream scoop of whipped cream in the center of the salad. If serving individual fruit salads, use a tablespoon instead of an ice cream scoop.
