Make Saltines Crisper

A saltine cracker is soft when stale.

Saltines are also known as soda crackers. They are flat, white crackers with a sprinkling of brown spots. The crackers can be bought salted or unsalted or made at home. Preparing traditional saltines at home is a time consuming process; expect it to take over 24 hours. Nontraditional soda crackers can be made in less than an hour. When exposed to the air for too long, saltines become soft. Don't throw them away. Bake or microwave the saltines to make them crisper.

Instructions

Stove

1. Pre-heat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Spread the saltines on a cookie sheet; the crackers should not overlap or touch.

3. Place the cookie sheet in the oven and cook the saltines for five minutes.

4. Remove the cookie sheet from the oven. Let the crackers rest until room temperature.

5. Eat the crackers. To store, place the saltines in an airtight container or seal inside a plastic bag.

Microwave

6. Fold a paper towel in half and place it in the microwave.

7. Place a layer of saltines on the folded paper towel.

8. Microwave the saltines for one minute. Let the crackers rest for three minutes before eating or storing in an airtight container.
