Make Pancake Mix Ahead Of Time For Camping

With a little preparation, get a lot of breakfast satisfaction.

Camping is even more fun when you start the day with a delicious pancake breakfast. Whether you are car camping with an icy cooler for perishables or backpacking with the barest essentials, homemade pancake mix recipes are available that suit your needs. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Add Eggs and Milk

The most common recipes for pancake mix call for adding "wet" ingredients when it's time to make the batter: eggs, milk or buttermilk, and oil or melted butter. This type of recipe works great if you have access to refrigeration.

Just Add Water

Less common but still readily available are recipes for truly "instant" pancake mix that do not require eggs or milk to make the batter. The magic ingredient is typically powdered milk or powdered buttermilk. Find these recipes by searching for "egg-less" or "just add water" pancake mix.

Dress It Up

Just like at home, most anything you consider a treat can put the finishing touch on your campfire pancake breakfast. In case you don't find a patch of wild berries or a grove of ripe nuts on your travels, bring along goodies from home: dried fruit, nuts, chocolate chips or even maple syrup in a plastic pouch.
