Mushrooms
Buying fresh mushrooms in bulk is a smart and affordable way to purchase mushrooms. Fresh mushrooms are moist by nature. If you don't plan on using all of the mushrooms at once, you can preserve and store them by removing the moisture and drying them out. Dried mushrooms will last for up to a year and will still keep the same flavor. The mushrooms can then be used in meals, salads and soup stocks at a later date.
Instructions
1. Rinse the mushrooms to remove any dirt.
2. Set the temperature of your oven to 140 degrees Farenheit. You don't want the oven too hot as this could cause the mushrooms to burn. A dehydrator may also be used if you have one.
3. Place the mushrooms on sheet pan. Make sure to spread the mushrooms out to allow each one to completely dry.
4. Place the pan of mushrooms in the oven. The cooking time will vary depending on the number of mushrooms you are drying and the amount of moisture on the mushrooms. Keep an eye on the mushrooms until they appear to be moisture-free.
5. Remove the mushrooms from the oven and allow them to cool.
6. Place the mushrooms in airtight containers and store in a cool, dark place, such as a pantry, until needed. The mushrooms will last up to 12 months when properly stored.
