Make A Microwave Popcorn Popper

Save money and avoid the potentially dangerous chemicals in prepackaged microwave popcorn bags by making your own microwave popper from a plain brown lunch bag. Design your own customized flavors by controlling oil, salt and seasoning levels and varieties. In just a few minutes you can assemble the popper and serve a fresh batch of microwave popcorn. You can even eat the popcorn right out of the popping bag to eliminate the need to wash a single dish.

Instructions

1. Open a brown paper lunch bag and pour in the popcorn kernels, salt and oil. Add a dash or two of a favorite dry seasoning for an added flavor dimension to your snack.

2. Seal the brown paper lunch bag by making three 1/2-inch wide folds as you turn the top of the bag down.

3. Rest the the filled brown paper bag popper on its side inside the microwave, and heat it on high for two minutes.

4. Open the microwave and gently shake the paper bag to cover all the kernels with oil, and return the bag for another thirty seconds to one minute on high.

5. Listen closely and stop the microwave when there are five second gaps between popping noises.

6. Lift and remove the hot bag of popcorn carefully out of the microwave by pinching an area of the bag that doesn't appear to be oil soaked.

7. Allow the brown paper lunch bag popper to rest outside the microwave for 30 seconds to a minute before giving it a few gentle shakes.

8. Open the folds in the top of the bag slowly to vent the escaping steam away from your hands and face.
