Set Up A Cheese Platter

Plan to serve 2 oz. of cheese per person.

A cheese platter is an ideal appetizer for any type of party of get-together, be it big or small. The platters allow guests to choose their favorite types of of cheese while mixing and mingling with other party-goers. Include a sampling of cheeses, such as hard and soft types, to please everyone on your guest list. Supply a variety of complementary snacks, including assorted crackers and breads, to accompany the cheeses.

Instructions

1. Select a variety of cheeses to serve on the appetizer platter. Pick semi-hard cheeses, such as Cheddar and Gouda, semi-soft cheese, such as havarti, and soft, spreadable cheeses such as brie and Camembert.

2. Cut the semi-hard cheeses into bite-size cubes using separate knives to avoid mixing flavors. Arrange the hard cheese pieces in one area of a decorative serving platter.

3. Cut the semi-soft cheeses into equal-size slices and arrange them next to the hard cheeses. Unwrap the soft cheeses and set them, uncut, onto the platter.

4. Provide cheese spreaders and cocktail picks or toothpicks, along with appetizer plates, so guests can help themselves to the cheese.

5. Fill several baskets or bowls with crackers, mini toasts, flat breads and nuts to accompany the cheese. Serve the cheese at room temperature to ensure the best flavor.
