Make French Dip Sandwiches

Prime rib makes especially juicy sandwiches.

French dip sandwiches are perfect for football watch parties or anytime you're looking for a hearty lunch or dinner. They were created in 1918 by a French deli owner in Los Angeles - by accident, according to the restaurant, which is still open. Make the filling fare for a crowd or as a special treat for yourself.

Instructions

1. Place the roast in a slow cooker and sprinkle the soup mix, minced garlic, salt and pepper over the top.

2. Pour the beer over the top of the roast. Set the slow cooker on low and cook the roast for six to eight hours.

3. Check the roast's temperature. It should be 135 degrees at its thickest part. Remove the roast from the cooker and let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing it thinly or shredding it with a fork.

4. Make the dipping sauce. Pour the drippings from the slow cooker into a large saucepan. Add the beef broth and water, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the mixture just to a boil, then turn off the heat and let it sit, covered, for 10 minutes.

5. Place the beef on the buns and serve with small cups of dipping sauce.
