Juice Sugar Cane

Sugar cane is a thick-skinned porous grass that produces a sweet, watery juice. Sugar cane juice is a source of unrefined carbohydrates, and there are numerous benefits to drinking this juice, including immune system support and teeth strengthening. Extracting the juice from sugar cane is done primarily using an extractor or juicer, which are available both commercially and for consumers.

Instructions

1. Set up your sugar cane juice extractor. Make sure that the rollers and juice barrel of your extractor are clean. Most juice extractors are operated by electricity so place it near a power source and plug in your extractor.

2. Place the extractor on a solid flat surface if it is free-standing. If you have a table top extractor, keep the machine away from the edges of the table and ensure that the surface is clean and dry.

3. Switch on your extractor. Most extractors have a green power switch that begins moving the sugar cane rollers.

4. Slowly insert one end of the sugar cane stalk into the extractor's feed slot. The rollers of electric sugar cane extractors will then begin pulling the stalk through the machine.

5. Lightly hold onto the free end of the sugar cane stalk as the extractor feeds the stalk through. Do not force the stalk into the extractor's feed as this could cause jamming.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 with remaining sugar cane stalks once the stalk has been completely fed through the extractor.

7. Switch the extractor off when you have juiced all of your sugar cane.

8. Gently pull out on the juicer barrel to release the juice container. Pour juice into a jug or container and refrigerate to guarantee freshness.

9. Unplug your extractor and wipe down with a damp sponge after every use. Wash the juice barrel in the sink using a gentle dish soap.
