The smell of burnt food is one that all aspiring chefs become familiar with at some point in their cooking careers. The odor and smoke can easily spread from the kitchen to the other parts of the house, making it very unpleasant to breathe in your space until the smell disperses. Luckily, the smell of burnt food will go away over time, and there are a few things you can do to help it disappear.
Instructions
1. Open all the doors and windows in the kitchen and surrounding rooms. Open the nearest door that leads to the outside, and close and open it a few times to help circulate air and disperse the smoke. Turn on the kitchen fan, if you have one, and set up a window fan facing outward to draw the smoke and smell outside. A freestanding fan can also help disperse the smell and smoke.
2. Set a large saucepan on your stove, and fill it with one quart of water and two cups of vinegar. You can also add lemon juice or lemon rinds to the pan to help reduce the strong odor of the vinegar.
3. Heat the vinegar solution until it is boiling, then bring the mixture down to a simmer. Allow it to simmer for 15 to 30 minutes, monitoring the pan to make sure it doesn't boil over or boil dry.
4. Dab several pieces of white bread with vinegar and place them strategically around your kitchen to help absorb any remaining smells. Remove the bread and throw it away when the smell has completely disappeared.
