Make Smoked Almonds
If you love smoked almonds, making them at home is a project that takes little time and costs even less money. Almonds are an excellent source of protein and fiber and preparing them in an oven or smoker gives them a distinctive taste. They are a perfect finger food to serve for festive occasions or just something to snack on while watching a favorite movie. Change the spices around and add some of your own distinctive touches for a signature dish.
Instructions
Smoker Recipe
1. Melt butter in a skillet. Add the almonds to the skillet once the butter has melted completely.
2. Remove the skillet from the burner and cover. Let it sit for ten minutes, stirring often.
3. Mix the salt, sugar and onion powder in a grinder until you create a fine powder. You can use a food processor, coffee grinder or spice grinder.
4. Drain the almonds in a colander and then spread them out on a baking sheet.
5. Coat all almonds with the powdered mixture.
6. Place the pan in a smoker at 225 degrees. Use a light flavored wood, such as apple.
7. Toast the almonds lightly and then remove them. Set the nuts aside and let them cool. Store your smoked almonds in an airtight container on a shelf once cooled.
Oven Recipe
8. Whisk an egg white in a bowl until foamy. Add the garlic powder, celery salt, table salt and liquid smoke into the bowl with the egg. Stir until well blended.
9. Pour the almonds into the bowl and stir until coated.
10. Coat a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Lay the almonds out on the coated baking sheet in a thin, even layer.
11. Bake the almonds in the oven at 300 degrees for 30 minutes. Stir every 10 minutes.
12. Remove the baking pan from the oven. Allow the smoked almonds time to cool and then store them in an airtight container on a shelf.
