Package mozzarella with tomatoes to diversify product offerings.
If grandma's mozzarella recipe is worth selling at the neighborhood farmers market or to the local health food store, a method of packaging the food is necessary for customers to carry the mozz' home. Fortunately, your home kitchen does not have to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration, but your homemade food items must still be packaged according to the FDA's labeling and nutrition regulations. Package your mozzarella in cling wrap or plastic containers.
Instructions
1. Purchase cling wrap or clear plastic containers from a restaurant supply store. While you can easily purchase cling wrap at a supermarket, a restaurant supply store will offer industrial sized quantities at bulk rates.
2. Create a label. The label does not need to be fancy, but must state the name of your business, contact information and the ingredients of your mozzarella.
3. Divide the mozzarella into different sized portions if not already formed into large and small balls. Varying your portion options will allow customers with varying preferences and needs to buy your mozz' without feeling that they are buying too much when all they want is a little.
4. Pull a length of cling wrap that is equivalent to the diameter of the mozzarella. Lay the cling wrap flat on a clean counter. Set a portion of mozzarella in the center of the wrap. Fold the wrap around the cheese. Affix the label on the bottom to secure the cling in place.
5. Set the mozzarella inside a plastic container and close it. Affix the label on top, on bottom or over the seam of the container to act as a seal.
