Make Apple Juice Without A Press

Making your own apple juice is simple and inexpensive.

Apple juice is a good source of Vitamin C, iron and fiber, and it contains no calories from fat. While a press is often used in the making of apple juice, you can easily make your own juice without one. Doing so is relatively inexpensive and won't require fancy tools. In fact, the equipment you'll need might be in your kitchen already.

Instructions

1. Choose apples that are naturally sweet, such as Gala, Fuji or Red Delicious, so that you won't need to add sugar. A bushel of apples -- roughly the number it would take to fill a laundry basket -- will yield between 15 and 20 quarts of juice.

2. Fill a large pot with apples. Cover them with water and boil the apples on medium heat for about 15 minutes, or until they are slightly tender.

3. Remove the apples one at a time once they have cooled. Using a cutting board and knife, begin slicing the apples in half. Delicately remove the core and seeds. Then cut the halves in two as well.

4. Fill the blender with the apple pieces and blend them at high speed.

5. Place a clean coffee filter in a strainer. This will help filter out the pulp. Place the strainer over your drinking pitcher.

6. Pour the apples from the blender into the strainer. The juice will begin to flow into the pitcher.

7. Repeat the process until your container is full of juice. Keep the juice in the refrigerator to prevent spoilage. You can either discard the pulp from the strainer or place it in small containers and store for future consumption.
