Cut flowers last longers when treated properly.
No one wants to have beautiful fresh cut flowers die just a few days after they put them out. Cut flowers need clean, nourishing water and a good way to "drink" it.
Instructions
1. Fill a vase about halfway up with water.
2. Add a capfull of hydrogen peroxide to kill the bacteria that will want to grow in the water, and a teaspoon of sugar to nourish the plants.
3. Lay the flowers and greenery out on a table and pick out all the dying leaves, stems and petals.
4. Cut off each stem -- on the diagonal rather than straight across, so the stem can draw up the most water possible -- with a sharp knife or scissors.
5. Arrange the flowers and greenery in the vase. If any leaves or stems are below the water line, pull the flower up and pinch it off. Plant matter left to soak in the water will soon rot.
6. Change the water, complete with hydrogen peroxide and sugar, and trim the stem ends at least three-quarters of an inch every three days or so.
